Sedentary!?!?! But I exercise every day! |
|
Even if you
exercised
for 2 hours per day all week, if you spend MOST of your day sitting at
a desk behind a computer or filing papers or generally remaining
inactive, you my friend are considered to be living a SEDENTARY
lifestyle.
Think about it: Yeah, you work out 2 hours a day, vigorously you might
add. But you are fairly inactive for the 9 hours you are at work, for
the hour or more spent in your car or other mode of transportation
commuting to and from work, getting ready in the morning, making dinner
in the evening, relaxing on the sofa at some point, etc. My point is
that even though you exercise vigorously 2 hours a day you spent at
least 12 hours not. And that does not include the number of hours you
sleep each night.
Sedentary is fine. Unless you have a job that requires you to be very
active throughout your workday, and most of us do not, you are
sedentary. DO NOT LET THE LABEL DE-MOTIVATE YOU. It is just that; a
label. Through regular, progressive exercise and proper nutrition you
can achieve your desired body weight and healthful fitness level. It's
one thing to recognize that you fit into the sedentary group when you
are strong, flexible and at a healthy weight. It's another when you fit
into the group and are 50 or more pounds overweight, you generally have
trouble breathing and you can't remain bent over long enough to tie
your shoe. |
