What are some general nutrition recommendations?
  • Proper nutrition accounts for over 60% of your success when trying to reach a fitness goal.
  • Hire a personal trainer or nutritionist who will provide you with an education on nutrition.
  • Drink at least 64 oz. (1/2 gallon) of water every day.  After about 2 weeks, your body will see no further need to retain water.
  • To lose weight, lower the amount of refined carbohydrates you eat. That means eating less pasta, rice, bread, cereal and sugar. Eat whole grain versions of these foods when you do.  When eating, look at your plate and divide it into thirds.  Every meal should consist of 2/3 complex carbohydrates (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fibrous leafy vegetables, etc.) and 1/3 protein.  A portion of rice or pasta is about the size of your fist.  A portion of meat is about the size of a deck of cards.  A portion of nuts is a normal handful.
  • Eat 5 to 6 smaller meals every day (300 to 500 calories each) . This not only speeds up your metabolism, but is also less demanding on your pancreas for insulin production.
