What
should I look for in a coach? |
|
-
Look for a
national certification from organizations accredited by the
National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Currently
only the National
Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the American
Council on Exercise (ACE), the National Athletic Trainers
Association (NATA), and the National Federation of Professional
Trainers (NFPT) are accredited by the NCCA. Fitwell
Coaching
only staffs coaches with certifications from these
organizations.
-
Look for a
responsible person who sits down with you and shows concern and
interest in your goals and health history before beginning to
train you. Fitwell Coaching
conducts health history and personal interviews with every
client before ever designing a program and assigning a coach.
-
Look for a
person who trains safely and is knowledgeable in motivational
techniques, program design, correct form, proper exercise technique
and nutrition.
-
Look for a
person who is willing and interested in training you at least 3 times
per week for at least 3 months to insure that you see the results you
want and reach your goals, rather than just offering you a few
sessions to earn a quick buck and send you on your way.
-
Look for a
person who is as eager to see you reach your goals as you are.
-
Make sure the
coach carries liability insurance.
-
The coach
should NOT guarantee instant results or weight loss greater than 2
pounds per week.
-
Not all
personal trainers will have the same techniques. While some are
definitely better than others, there are as many different techniques
that work as there are personal trainers. Just because personal
trainers differ in their styles, does not mean they are not equally as
good. Just make sure the trainer trains safely and gets results.
