Do NOT
penalize yourself for indulging once in a while. |
|
I certainly do
not
condone using food as a reward, in most cases, as this implies a degree
of psychological dependence on food to make you feel good; to comfort
you. Comfort yourself by keeping your eye on the ball and
working toward your goal(s). You have the power to get
there. Don't jeopardize your goals by "indulging" too much.
Instead, I like to think that if you've busted your butt all week
eating right and exercising, (if you're honest with yourself, you'll
know) you should be allowed to indulge in some of your favorites. I am
an ice-cream junky, but that doesn't mean that on Saturday after a
hard, productive week that I get to eat a half-gallon of Breyer's
Vanilla Bean (one of my favorites). Over-indulgence is a NO-NO.
Moderation is certainly allowed.
You should never completely forbid yourself from ever enjoying foods
you love but are recognized as unhealthy. Doing so will cause you to
get down on yourself when you do happen to have an extra serving or two
or eat something you feel you "shouldn't" have. The key is MODERATION
and INFREQUENCY. Moderation and infrequency will keep that favorite
food very much enjoyable. |
